ENG Women vs BAN Women, 6th Match, Group B at Sharjah, Women's T20 World Cup, Oct 05 2024 - Match Result
9:06pm Time for the presentation
Nigar Sultana: "We missed a good opportunity to beat a good side. Our bowlers have done a good job but our batters disappointed. We kept the game in control after the powerplay. This kind of surface, we need to have a good partnership. Did not have a good powerplay, gave away wickets. Me and Sobhana Mostary were having a good partnership but I got out at the wrong time. She has been consistent, hope she does well in next games"
Heather Knight: "Tough out there, conditions were tough for batting and boundary-hitting. Wyatt-Hodge and Bouchier did well. We targeted 135-140, that is what we prepared for. It is not going to be beautiful or sexy in these conditions. Happy with the score it was a good total. Surface got slower and lower. Smith did well, six years after her last World Cup game. We had a look at what the surface did and what the bounce was like. Smith keeps the stumps in play with her height. We have to be adaptable. Watching the first game gave us a clue. [South Africa] had a convincing game. They are competitive and bring the fire and passion."
That is all we have for you from tonight. Do keep an eye out for the post-game stories and reactions. But don't venture too far away. Because it is the bid day tomorrow. It is India vs Pakistan day. Do join us nice and early for that tomorrow afternoon. Till then, on behalf of Chandan and Alan, this is Sudarshanan bidding you goodbye! Ciao!
8:57pm England begin their 2024 campaign with a win by defending their lowest total in T20 World Cups. On a slow track that aided spin, England's bowler proved why they are a highly-rated attack. Never for one did they let Bangladesh skip away and always maintained a leash. Not often do you see Ecclestone finish wicketless but the others more than made up for it. Smith was top-notch with her accuracy and variations, and also with her fielding. Dean also struck twice. Only Mostary managed to put up a fight but it seemed to be in a losing cause always.
Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Player of the Match: "It was nice to get out there. Delighted with the win. Pretty tough conditions. We did well to get that total. Slow and low surface, wanted to keep the intent and try to get as much runs. You are better off playing your shots and play with intent. Every game will be challenging. Important to learn from tonight"
Flighted full on middle, squirted through to fine leg
Fuller on the stumps, Fahima looks to sweep but is almost through with it and gloves it past the wicketkeeper. Slip, short third and fine leg chase, with Knight from slip winning the chase
On a length just outside off, chops it towards short third for a quick one. Fahima makes it in
Fuller outside off, slog swept to deep midwicket
Slower through the air, just outside off, spins away with some bounce. She looks to sweep but misses
Ecclestone for the final over of the game
Comes forward to defend that but misses. Jones whips off the bails quickly but Rabeya seems to have her back leg in. Confirmed by the third umpire as well
Fuller outside off again, swept to short midwicket
Very full outside off, squeezed towards the left of short midwicket
Rabeya Kahn is in at No. 9
Plumb in front but Mostary reviews. Dean fires it in on middle, fuller than good length. Mostary goes for a swipe across the line and is hit low on her front leg. Was there an inside edge? UltraEdge detects none and it is clipping leg Umpire's call, which means Mostary has to walk back
Fuller on middle, tickled away through short fine leg
Superb effort from Gibson at deep backward square leg. She runs to her left, stretches her left hand and dives to save two. It was shortish and Mostary pulled it
Dean, with Bangladesh needing 32 off 12
Back of the hand slower one on a length on middle, clipped through backward square leg
Gets a length ball that she heaves away to deep square leg
Fahima Khatun
You-miss-I-hit kinda dismissal. Length ball around off, it is the cross-seam one. So it lands and skids through, staying low. Moni goes for a heave across the line but misses it completely
Slower offcutter, full outside off, driven to sweeper
She backs away and Sciver-Brunt follows her, Moni misses the clip and steals a leg bye
Slower one on a length outside off, she goes for a hack across the line, inside edges it onto her back leg
Fuller outside off, swept to deep midwicket. Smith's done for tonight
Full on middle, turned wide of short fine leg
